Mission and Philosophy

The mission of ACCL consulting is to teach children with autism (or other disabilities) to learn from their environment and to build meaningful, socially-responsive, long-lasting relationships with family members and peers. To achieve our mission, we use a comprehensive, child-focused, team approach grounded in natural science and reliant on data-based decision making. It is very important to us that each child learns and that learning and communicating is fun and rewarding.

When developing intervention programs we build on the child's current repertoire and focus on positive approaches to learning. We provide individualized, socially-valid, evidence-based, programming to enhance functional communication and meaningful relationships. To promote growth in these areas, we teach social, play, academic and adaptive skills, among others. No two child's programs are the same. Programs are tailored to each individual child and family depending on their strengths and needs, and are in-line with their specific goals. For each child to reach his or her maximum potential, ACCL recommends collaboration between all stakeholders and family members are encouraged to play an active role in all aspects of intervention.

Another mission of ACCL is to provide applied community service-learning experiences for students interested in pursuing careers in behavior analysis. With ACCL, student learners obtain experience providing direct interventions and participating in pragmatic research. ACCL is a Teaching Partners Program (TPP), a training program for top graduate students in behavior analysis from around the world. TPP is modeled after training programs in teaching hospitals where students receive hands on and guided instruction.

All ACCL student learners and staff members receive ongoing training in applied behavior analysis and specialize in applying behavior analytic principles with children with autism (or related disabilities). Staff develop expertise in a variety of teaching formats, including Natural Environment Training, Discrete Trial Training, Precision Teaching, and Fluency-Based Instruction. All teaching formats used are based on Applied Behavior Analysis, and are selected in accordance with a given child's strengths and needs. Additionally, ACCL staff maintain active involvement in the behavior analytic community and stay up-to-date on advancements within the field at large.

"We are the many collaborators, the many minds and the many hearts working toward the common goal of extraordinary student achievement."
