Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science of the application of behavioral principles to solve problems of social importance. The practice of ABA is the scientific approach of using evidence-based techniques to produce meaningful behavioral change and improve lives by teaching socially significant repertoires.

 

ABA-based intervention involves setting attainable, socially-valid goals and monitoring progress towards goals. Goals are broken down into component skills and taught using evidence-based teaching procedures. Behavioral functions and environmental variables are analyzed to inform intervention. Learner-specific data is continuously collected, reviewed, and data-based modifications are implemented to arrange conditions for skill acquisition, generalization and maintenance. 

 

ABA-based intervention is considered the most effective approach to treat the symptoms characteristic of autism spectrum disorders.
